LPC4357-EVB Capacitive-Touchscreen Addon

Working in close collaboration with NXP, element14 exclusively presents ARM® Cortex™-M4 and Cortex™-M0 processors based LPC4357-EVB multimedia evaluation kit. The LPC4357-EVB is a high-performance, low-cost solution for developing DSP and MCU applications within a single architecture and development environment.

The LPC4357-EVB is equipped with NXP's dual-core Cortex-M4/M0 based LPC4357 microcontroller. The LPC4357 is an ARM Cortex-M4 based microcontroller for embedded applications which include an ARM Cortex-M0 coprocessor. The Cortex-M4 processor combines the benefits of a microcontroller with high-performance digital signal processing features such as single-cycle MAC, Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) techniques, saturating arithmetic, and a floating point unit. The Cortex-M0 coprocessor off-loads many of the data movement and I/O handling duties that can drain the bandwidth of the Cortex-M4 core. The LPC4357 also includes 1 MB Flash memory, 136 kB of data memory, two High Speed USB 2.0 Host/OTG/Devices, advanced configurable peripherals such as the State Configurable Timer (SCT), Serial General Purpose I/O (SGPIO), and SPI Flash Interface (SPIFI) as well as Ethernet, LCD, an external memory controller and multiple digital and analog peripherals.

The LP4357-EVB can be ordered with an optional resistive touchscreen.

Capacitive-Touchscreen Addon

Another type of touchscreens are capacitive touchscreens. Capacitive touchscreens provide a better user experience compared to resistive touchscreens; the screen itself is clearer, the response of the touch input is more accurate while requiring less pressure, and mult-touch gestures (e.g. pinch zooming) are possbile. These kind of displays are becoming more and more standard in many GUI applications.

To enable users of the LPC4357-EVB to benefit from the advantages of capacitive touchscreens, NXP has developed a capacitive-touchscreen addon board. This board can be connected to- and screwed on top of the LPC4357-EVB, effectively connecting the capacitive-touchscreen module (UMSH-8253MD-3T) to the LPC4357-EVB. We have also provided an emWin project which makes use of the capacitive touchscreen.
